Page Leader:  Sharon Alfred

Sharon J. Alfred has counseled more than 900 clients, including but not limited to consumer-related satisfaction with advertised products or services. Her most recent practice was as an installation attorney in the Judge Advocate General's Department of the U.S. Air Force. For seven years, she has worked to perfect the technique of enhancing the clients' knowledge of the law of consumerism.

Combining the journalistic skills honed by study at the University of Mississippi, where she graduated with highest honors, with a law degree from Harvard Law School, Ms. Alfred has worked tirelessly to create and implement Preventive Law programs that benefit the client. In addition, she has authored office handouts and articles in order to keep the client informed about various aspects in the arena of Legal Assistance and Preventive Law. Throughout her years as a lawyer and journalist, Ms Alfred has volunteered as a literacy teacher, and unceasingly advocated for full consumer knowledge and power. For her dedication and assistance, she has twice earned achievement awards during her service as a JAG officer, and received numerous thanks of appreciation from grateful clients and governmental agencies.

Essay

What is consumer-commercial law? A popular definition says that it involves all the rights that consumers of either products or services desire to know. And with that knowledge comes the understanding that enforcement of those rights is a reasonable expectation. In fact, consumer satisfaction has always been uppermost in the nation's mind, note the many national and federal bodies that exist to protect these consumer rights. Without these watchdog organizations, many unsuspecting consumers would often fall victim to the deceptive or fraudulent acts of others without a way to redress such acts.

Since crooks constantly invent new ways to pry hard earned money from consumers, this very real danger serves as a principal justification to constantly inform consumers "to stay on the look-out." The advent of business via the internet has only strengthened the need for consumer protection at home (domestically) and on an international scale as well.

Commercial consumerism takes many forms, stemming from any deception or other false assurances which trick consumers into buying or investing in products, services, etc. that do not perform or deliver as promised by the seller. One of the main goals of the consumer-commercial section of the National Center for Preventive Law is to provide information and guidance on any number of matters that result in the taking advantage of the uninformed consumer.
